Camp Hill, Alabama-based Lyman Ward Military Academy, the state’s only military board school and one of less than 50 military boarding schools in the nation, will host its annual MUD Soldier Competition, Saturday, April 4, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (CST).
This event matches the Academy’s three Companies against each other in a physical competition, with the winning Company scoring significant points in the standings for the Academy’s prestigious President’s Cup, awarded to the best Company.
Points for the President’s Cup are accumulated throughout the school year, and are awarded based on all aspects of Cadet performance, including inspections, drills and academics.
“This is an opportunity for our Cadets to showcase leadership and teamwork in a friendly, yet physically and mentally challenging competition,” says Lyman Ward Military Academy’s President, Col. (Ret.) Bill Jenrette.  ”Our Cadets take much pride in our President’s Cup, and it is a goal that our Cadets work toward as a group,” Jenrette continued.
The MUD Soldier Competition features a Ranger Obstacle Course, a 12-mile Military Relay Race and a Litter Race/Stretcher Carry.  Each Company, featuring 30 Cadets, will participate as teams, with points being awarded for each challenge.  The final challenge features a Tug of War competition.
