On October 30, millions of breast cancer survivors, advocates, friends, families and loved ones will raise their glasses in a “Toast to the Cure,” a grassroots campaign designed and implemented by Opelika-based b2 ideas for its client, Pink Ribbon Wines.

California-based Wade/Kerr Wine Company is issuing a special edition Pink Ribbon Wines label to support the cause.  The “Toast to the Cure” is an opportunity for communities, groups and individuals to plan gatherings to share a toast, remembering people we have lost, supporting survivors, thanking advocates, and showing commitment to finding a cure for breast cancer.

“This campaign is designed to shed even more light on finding a cure for breast cancer, in addition to raising funds for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation,” says Bob Bartels of b2 ideas.

“We were impressed with b2 ideas, its experience, insight, creativity and accountability, and ultimately believe that the firm will be able to assist us in our goals,” says Bill Wade of Wade Kerr Wine Company.

A blog has been established at www.pinkribbonwines.com, providing anyone affected by breast cancer with the opportunity to share his or her “toast” with others.  Velinda Wheeles, a ten-year breast cancer survivor and Director of Opelika Main Street, was more than willing to speak about her fight with breast cancer, and was the first to submit her online toast:

“Here’s to the face of breast cancer, and ten years of being a survivor.  Here’s to seizing the opportunity to fight for my family – watching my kids grow up and sharing time with those I love and hold most dear to my heart and mind.  Here’s to the friends, doctors, nurses and supporters who helped me through this disease, and to the compassionate ear, tender shoulder, and sound advice I can offer to others who may go through the same ordeal.  Here’s to life.”

Wheeles is an active breast cancer advocate, and organizes an annual Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in Opelika, benefiting individuals who are unable to afford mammograms.  This year’s event will be held on October 18.

b2 ideas (www.b2ideas.com) specializes in the design and implementation of integrated public/media relations campaigns, and has experience doing so on local, regional and national levels.
